Food Pantries Brockton

By Jack Schwietz

According to the Boston Food Bank, there are over 1.6 million people in the state who do not have enough to eat.

In the Greater Brockton area, there are several summer food pantries that offer help and provide food for free.

The Charity Guild operates a huge emergency pantry and is located at 501 Main St. Brockton.

Both individuals and families are eligible to receive both non-perishable and perishable foods.

The funds for the pantry are raised from the thrift store, donations, grants, and fundraising which is used for the emergency food pantry.

The hours of operation are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10:00 a.m to 12 p.m.

There are other food pantries in the Brockton area that provide food as well.

Servants of Hope Food Pantry is located at 752 Oak St, Brockton Mass.

The pantry has just about everything, but a lot of what people donate is fresh produce and canned goods.

“The most common food that we have is dry and produce,” Karlene Palmer, who runs the pantry, said.

They remain open on the first, third, and fifth Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m until 1 p.m.

“We accept everything that comes to us, but I try to avoid pork. I separate things according to food allergies such as shellfish, nuts, and things like that,” Palmer said.

You must be a Brockton resident and due to the Covid-19 pandemic, you have to remain in your vehicles to be served your food.

Massasoit Community College partnered with Stop & Shop School Food Pantry started in 2019.

The Pantry at Massasoit is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m to 4 p.m for any community members, and walk-ins in the greater Brockton area.

The pantry is at 1 Massasoit Blvd on the 1st floor of the Field House.

“It’s more than just picking up groceries because we can make referrals or recommendations for financial support, mental health services, and other resources,” said Sean Dadsetan-Foley, director of Basic Needs Massasoit.

Another place that distributes food once a week is the Brockton Assembly of God Food Pantry.

It is located at 199 Warren Ave in Brockton and is open on Fridays from 10 a.m to 12 p.m.

Just outside the area of Brockton, there is the Food Friendly Food Pantry located at 11 Donald S McNeil Way, Randolph, Mass, and is between the Turner Free Library and Randolph High School.

Their objective is to provide free food service every four weeks and any individual or family that is in need.

It is open on Mondays from 12:30 p.m to 2:30 p.m and in the evenings from 6 p.m to 7:30 p.m.

Brockton has several different food pantries that offer support to people in need and help provide assistance.
